It's impossible for Rautins to have been second in the conference in assists behind Magic Johnson in 1980. To say nothing of the fact that it's unlikely that a player recording fewer than four assists per game would be second in the Big Ten, by that time, Johnson was already in the NBA. Can someone please check on this statistic and fix it? Thanks. 67.68.233.85 07:41, 5 April 2006 (UTC)Reply

you re right. i thought the info was dodgy when i read it - it comes from Orangehoops.org (no doubt out to embellish the exploits of one of their greats). i ll remove this content from the page (i d put there naively) Mayumashu 06:31, 20 May 2006 (UTC)Reply

Please re-read the link to OrangeHoops on Leo Rautins. You have misrepresented the data and libelously claimed it was designed to embelish Rautin's career.

The article at OrangeHoops states that Rautins was second in the Big Ten in assists as a Freshman. The statistics on the page are for his career at Syracuse University. Rautins was a freshman for Minnesota, in the Big Ten, in 1978-1979 (same time as Magic Johnson). Those statistics are not shown on the page. You made a reference to a player with less than 4 assists a game could not be 2nd in the Big Ten; but OrangeHoops makes no reference to how many assists Rautins had that year.

He had to redshirt a year to transfer to Syracuse (under NCAA rules), and thus his sophomore year was 1980-1981, as Syracuse. Those are the stats you are referring to.

It does not matter to me whether you include information from OrangeHoops.org in Wikipedia; OrangeHoops.org stands for what it is. However, I do not appreciate erroneous statements about the validity of content on the site, particulary when they are a result of a misreading of the information on the site.

Thank you.
