Awesome game! The role reversal of a tower defense game works really well. I also like that you swap sides after winning. Overall great job :)
Thank you ! it's so nice to see how much you liked our game !
Pretty nice game! Needs some balancing in the units but an interesting concept nevertheless. For instance, I just spammed kings on the sieging side and won in 2 rounds so then I just needed to kill 1 king when defending and that was considered a victory.
I totally agree. Some balancing patches did not install properly. Fortunately, only kings are not enough for all levels.
If you didn't have to face the same waves that you sent to win, that's definitely a problem we need to investigate. Do you remember at which level it happened?
First 3 levels I spammed Kings, won in 2 rounds then spammed Queens on defending side
Neat, I had a good time with this one. I like that I can play the same thing twice from each perspective, and that the role-reversal actually takes place as I play, rather than just as the basic premise of the game idea. Cute art too, I like your sprites :)
I wish that my actions from playing one side carried over to the next round as the other side in some way so that I actively have to think about the role reversal as I am playing.
And I think it's interesting how the typical tower defense ways of making levels more complex only really apply to one side. Adding more paths means interesting choices for the defender but it just means I choose the weakest link as the attacker. I wonder how more complexity could be created for the attacker too.
By the way, when I won the attacking side on level 3, my game stopped with an eternal freeze frame.
I don't know if you noticed, but the units you used to attack are the same for the defense phase, with the same timing.
I agree that the game lacks complexity, but we've kept it relatively simple, in keeping with our abilities and the limited time available.
Oooh I definitely did not notice that! That is fascinating - I always just randomly spammed things in the attacking phase and got through with it quite well. I would have played differently had I known this fact. I viewed this as a game where both the attacking and defending phases are supposed to be equally challenging but it seems like the attacking phase is mostly preparation for the defense phase then...
i love this game ! i loved the plot twist ! I was not ready for the exchange.
Ahah, we're glad to read this! Thank you!
I'm a really big fan of chess so by default this is my favorite version of this concept! Awesome job
Thank you very much! The chess theme was indeed very inspiring and helped us to find many ideas of gameplay ^^
Even though the idea is common, this is one of the most polished one I've played. It was a challenge until I realized that the queen just sustains themselves when beside each other. I don't really expect a balanced game in a game jam, but it was just funny so I had to point it out.
We're happy you liked it!
My strat was 4 queens and one jack in offense, bishops and pawns only in defence ;)
Hey !
^^ A quelle école ?
Fun game and great menu art, but for some reason the game crashed on the first level so I had to restart.
Did you manage to play after you restarted? If so We are aware about this issue :)
I did, it worked after
Wow, well done using the complexity of chess pieces for towers attacks. A speed up button would help with some of the waiting on the levels. Overall I love the concept, good job.
Thanks a lot!
The speed up button was indeed an idea suggested in the team, but unfortunately, we didn't had time to add this feature ^^ Thank you for you review!
Pretty nifty idea, I liked the idea of reversing your roles after the conquest and found the difficulty not too bad. I never ending up beating the 2nd level tho for whatever reason didn't really hook me, I think it may have needed a bit more polish? pretty good game tho!
Thanks for the feedback! With more time we could have focused more on some more polishing, maybe after the week we can work on it again!
That is the first in the tower defence genre where you defend aswell as you attack. Nice take: Maybe you can develop a mechanic where your actions as a defender before has influence on the way the game is setup when you have to attack it again :D. Just an idea.
This was an idea we deemed a bit too ambitious for both a game jam and our abilities. But it definitely went through our mind :D
fully reversed, good work!
Thank you! :D
Oh neat, haven’t seen many games this jam that manage to do the role reversal within the game itself! And reverse tower defense is always fun, and the theming was nice as well.
I’ve only played the first level, but I felt like playing as the chess pieces was way easier than playing as the cards. Maybe some rebalancing would help? Also, I’d love to be able to quick-restart a level when I can already tell it’s not going to work out.
Would probably not quite fit the jam theme anymore, but I’d be interested how well this works as an assymetrical two-player game, where one player tries to defend the tower and the other one attacks it. Obviously would need very careful balancing and it’s possible there are already games like this, but might be fun to try?
Overall, a pretty solid entry, though! Keep it up!
This is an idea we could explore if we are willing to go further after the jam ends :D We've already prepared some patches for then, and the quick-restart might be a good addition indeed :)
Nice twist
Glad you liked it!
This was awesome! I love tower defense games, so being able to play as the wave-sender for once was a nice twist! And defending the castle after I took it over was cool! I only made it to the second level, but the fact that there is more than one level to begin with for a two day jam was really impressive! Especially since the levels have different phases! Amazing work!
Thank you !
Cool idea! i think that with a little more polish, it could be even better :)
The second part of gameplay was a very clever idea!
Thank you very much, we really appreciate it!
We will try to use all the feedbacks to make the best game we can ! Thank you for your feedback, we're glad you enjoyed it !
I can clearly see the hard work behind this game ! Very nice work to the team who made this entertaining game
Everyone in the team made a great joob indeed! Thank you for your feedback! :D
We are both definitely proud of what we have achieved. Thank you very much for appreciating it!
I really like the concept and I liked the twist to need to defend as well. Only thing I can think of to add after the jam is like a tutorial to show how to play, as fumbling around for myself can sometimes be very frustrating. ^^
Sure, that's a good idea, specially with a strategic game like this one! But unfortunately the kinf of feature difficult to add during a jam ^^' But sure, we'll think about it. Thank you!
This was fun. I really liked the twist of having to defend the castle after having taken it. It did crash after I took the second castle, though.
Hey! Glad you enjoyed! We're investigating that issue so that we can patch it for when the jam ends :)
It's fun! I really enjoyed playing the game. The concept is genius. But the text was hard to read because of the font, especially on cards with smaller text size.
Thanks for the feedback, I'll make sure we get a better font for next week :)
