My god! Was this gory.
The idea was pretty neat, and it is nicely executed.
I loved that you must type to smash, as if you were playing Beethoven's melody. That was really creative.
However, the gory aesthetic was a bit too much for me. But that's just my personal taste.
Very well done!
I appreciate that feedback! For me it was a way to make an impression or stand out without too much effort as a solo builder. It is certainly not high art, despite the soundtrack.
I'm happy with how it turned out though. The fact that it felt too gory means I conveyed the ideas pretty well since at the end of the day its just some colorful pixels and a little physics.
I really enjoyed this game! It was really cute and funny!
its very hard but a cool mechanic, the art is really good
I agree it can be less janky, I was thinking about how to make something semi-frustrating that might be interesting to watch someone play on youtube -- but that shouldn't be an excuse for it being quite so difficult and janky.
I'm going to try to refine it a bit more. Thank you for the art compliment, and for checking it out!
Creative concept
🍻,👑
HHAHAA
I love this concept, unfortunately I got pretty bad lag spikes whenever I typed S M A S H :( . the gore is incredible
Indeed I did not make it to the "optimization" part of development. I need to put a hard cap on particle creation somewhere in there. You reached the "CPU wall" boss. Thank you for playing it!
Lol!!!! Hilarious - well done. Smashing birds === satisfaction. You especially KNOCKED IT OUT OF THE PARK on art. Love the look and feel.
Cheers, thank you! I've spent the last day wishing I had spent more time making the QWOP-inspired controls more responsive with better visual feedback, but I'm glad people are having fun with it as is!
I wanna smash the bird but it’s so hard…
I know, its kind of a trick. The more you watch the screen the harder it is sometimes. You just gotta focus on the keyboard and hit those S M A S H keys :D
Just hilarious - thank you for making this :D
The music + the typing chaos + the visuals + the number of birds = me worrying about my levels of evil.
All jokes aside, this fits the theme to a tee, the difficulty compounds the design really well, and felt pretty satisfying (though I realise some touch ups would be added ideally). I never played the original Flappy Bird but this still felt like much needed vengeance somehow.
I refused to even look at the original when I made this and produced the assets from "memory" hence why my lemon fish looks so... special.
Thank you :)
Nice game but the game is a bit hard!
:D
Yes right now breaking the streak is way too punishing and the rhythm is a bit unintuitive and awkward feeling. I like it, but it can be refined if I work on it a few more days. Thank you for playing!
Nice game and cool concept. The controls are a bit frustrating, especially starting out with only one bird, but it gets better as you go along (a reversal of difficulty, if you will ;)
That one was unintentional, but I'll take all these layered theme bonuses. Thank you for playing! I'm going to try and improve the pipe controls and difficulty curve after judging period, but I will keep it generally "reversed" as it is now. I like the idea of building up (to classical music) with a hard stop timer. I wanted to make sure the game was respectful of people's time (another inverse from flappy bird?)
Oh the gore! Love it! Love the idea of the controls being "reversed" from being a simple tap as a little theme bonus. If I'd had this idea, I would have gone with it! Great work
Because I feel so strongly about your entry as well, this post means a lot to me. I haven't released anything publicly in a long time (a couple years now) and my last few games haven't made as much impact as I would have hoped. Comments like this help a lot. I hope I can put out some higher effort little games and get back on the horse. Thank you :)
I feel for your journey. Try and place low expectations on the internets. It's a tough place to find good feedback and love for your games. Even in jams with fellow developers. It can be a bit rough as opinions run high and deep. :)
If your game genuinely makes you happy, you've achieved something monumental. It's on the back of that success that others will start to enjoy your work.
Ty, I think it's just that the bar has raised very high. I miss when just being able to put together a flash game meant at a minimum, thousands of people would play your game.
These days the audience is fractured, we're like musicians playing for musicians. It's nice, I just want to find the players again without going through a paywall ;)
Liked the gore, great concept!
Thank you! I didn't want to lose sleep for the jam so I went for maximum impact:effort and arrived at particle blood. Child of the 90s :)
The typing was a bit confusing but eventually got the hang of it. I REALLY like how it fits the theme, super hilarious XD
The more I play it, the more I want to get back in there and tweak it a bit. It's supposed to be janky but probably not *this* janky, typoes and losing the flow can really throw off a run in the current state. I can get it a little better than this while still retaining the "pushing a broken ww1 tank uphill in the mud" feel of the gameplay.
I may also use this mechanic to make a game based on that theme at some point, or something like that.

Typing on the keyboard made my brain hurt QwQ But love the idea and BEAUTIFUL choice of music to match the mayhem!
I'm sorry it's pretty tough in that final build. I'm going to loosen it up a bit for mistakes and add better on screen context when they let me update it :) Glad you enjoyed the soundtrack! I'm surprised more people don't use classical music in jams? Seems like a no brainer :)
A very interesting concept, I love this inversion, it seems the game has become gory compared to the cuteness of the flappy bird
I also think typing on a keyboard is the inverse of tapping on a phone :) thanks for playing!
Really fun little concept! The aesthetic is great and the S.M.A.S.H controls added so much to the game feel. Nicely done.
Thank you! The flow is a little janky and could be improved, I'd like to do a 1.1 version after the jam rating period to finish it up.
How the * do you type SMasg xD hehe fun game
You type "S" then "M" then "A" then "S" then "H" but its coded in a pretty silly way. It basically just looks for what the last letter you pressed was, and if it's the next in the sequence then you're good. If you go out of sequence, it flubs up the whole machine and you gotta type "SMASH" a bunch more times to get it really rolling again. I personally stare at my keyboard half the time while I play.
This stuff gotta 100% be featured on the GMTK video or we riot
10/10 would smash again.
much much appreciated.
