The Tetris-like inventory automatically presents a nice challenge, but you expanded it with scaling the backpack. The fact that it costs you dexterity creates space for decision-making, which is really nice. Cool game!
Played twice, I thought I had a much better stuff and stats the second run, but still lost? D= I might try again later, I hope it’s winnable, but I wish for a couple more days to explore everything more peacefully. Great job anyway!
You can still lose with great stuff if you get unlucky. The balancing is all over the place. High Dexterity is op.
Wow. Very impressed with this game.
I grew an extra hand and it was worth it :)
This game is litterally what i would be playing for hours on my phone
I swear i have been making for the past weeks before the jam started like the same exact game with the same inventory mechanic lol, but i really couldn't make that inventory work, so you won, 1 - 0
Really loved this rpg, i love actually simple things so this was awesome!
Sadly the background graphic was a bit confusing and not really that great, but i can understand the time limit.
Really creative take on the theme, good job!
Yeah, the graphics were placeholders that I made in a matter of minutes or sometimes even seconds. Didn't have time to make anything look good and I'm not really an artist anyway. Glad you liked the game! It was a lot of fun to make. I might consider expanding it in the future.
As for the inventory system: I gave each item a list with coordinates of the tiles it was taking up (starting from the top left corner and then I just had the inventory iterate through that list to check if those places are free. But that's probably a super bad solution. I'm certain there are much better ways to code it. Probably better to save the shape of the objects in a grid too lol.
I have defeated bobby on my third try! I really had fun with this game and even now that I beated it I still want to further explore it. being able to resize becky at the cost of dexterity really makes for some interesting decision making from the start to the finish of the game. nice work, keep working on it but it's very good already.
(luckily I had made a screenshot of the victory just before the game closed itself, else noone would believe I beat bobby)
I worked on it solo, so I completely sacrificed the visuals, sounds and balancing in order to cram in as much content as possible so doesn't feel as repetetive. I think I really achieved that last part somewhat so that's great :)
Thanks for the comment! I am considering on doing a fully-fledged version of the game in the future. Was a lot of fun to work on.
Nice!!
Liked it very much, Bobby is unfair lvl 65, too high lvling curve. Fun 5 stars all across
Haha! I had absolutely no time to balance the game. Bobby is still beatable, but only by abusing the items that are equally overpowered and having a very high Dexterity. But if you get unlucky he can still kill you.
Glad you liked it!
Glad to know its doable. I still loved the idea!
This is a nice spin on the theme!
While I think that the game loop is a bit slow, I really like the ideas in here. Nice game!
I really love that becky scales accordingly when you scale the backpack :D
Thanks for the feedback!
What exactly do you mean by "the game loop"? The combat? Or that a full playthrough takes too long?
I am actually considering to make this into a full game in the future, so I'm glad for any feedback I can get on this current build!
The game crashed in the tutorial when I put both sword and pickaxe in my backpack. But the second run went better! There's quite a bit of content and depth there, I like how you can choose to make your backback bigger but it costs you dexterity. And why is that backback so cute :P Overall good job!
Interesting. Couldn't replicate the crash. Not that I could fix it now, was just curious how that happened.
Thanks for the feedback!
very fun and catchy, i like it! keep the good work!
