Thank you for your constructive feedback! I didn't work on this song as much as I would have liked to but my mixing skills still aren't great so I'm not sure if I could have made it much better with time, lol. I can understand why it might sound chaotic in parts, another friend told me the same thing

I'm glad you liked the 2:03 - 2:15 part. I think it sounds cool, I'm just not sure if it's the right place for the song because I felt like that's where the song kind of deflates. I feel like this song can go in a lot of different directions so I think I'll be working on this track more and maybe more tracks like this

Anyway, thank you for your comment!

It sounds like you went out of your way to tell the whole story in your song. It sounds classical and I feel like it could be something from an opera. As in, you tell the story through your music and it can fit well with visuals. Like, I can imagine this kind of music being part of a video game intro that tells you the whole backstory of how the Singularity happened.

It's a really nice composition and I enjoyed listening to it

This sounds like the kind of breakdown in the music where dialogue is happening and there's a big reveal followed by a tough battle after the dialogue is finished.

It sounds really cool! It's intense but also atmospheric. It's a song that's all about vibes for me and I think you've set the tone for the theme really well. Like I can picture this song being played when they're realizing that AI is becoming dangerous and they're not sure what to do about it.

Really cool song!

That was very cool! Sounds like 2d side-scrolling action! The mix between strings and chiptune is seamless and the melodies you have going throughout the song are strong and keep the song driving forward. It's really impressive how much mileage you got from the string and synth melodies playing off of each other!

Good job! This song is really fun to listen to!

That's right, I think you posted your submission early  in the forum so I took a listen and thought "God dammit, I really need to step up my game!" lol

In your methodology, it says orchestra, did you actually get to work with an orchestra for this one? Either way it's a really solid composition with strong melodies and beats that adds to an epic sound. I've seen other users us Spitfire Labs which is what I have but haven't used it in the same way to get that orchestra sound other people have been getting so now I feel like I need to play around with it more, lol

But, yeah, this is a really cool sounding track! Like Dark Souls or Zelda big boss monster kind of music!

This almost sounds like something I can imagine being in the game Lone Survivor, like it's a psychological boss battle

This is a really cool song! All the beats and repetitive loops are used really effectively! I think it would fit really well in a kind of psychological horror game

That was really cool an atmospheric! I'm not sure if it's a boss battle theme, like maybe it could be used in a level, but it's definitely haunting though. This kind of feels like music from like a certain genre of game that I kind of don't remember playing, but I'm kind of getting the feeling I've played this game before with this kind of music.

It's sort of got that industrial rock vibe to it that I'm a pretty big fan of. Like when that higher synth sound comes in, it just kind of builds to the atmosphere and I think it sounds really cool!

The kind of spooky music I don't think I hear that much of except for maybe later platformers? I'm not sure. It's got a lot of the instruments and sounds that comes from scary music but then it goes techno, which is pretty cool. I really like that effect at the 3 minute mark. It's really well put together. It's just making me think "Damn, there are more things I need to learn on making music" lol

But it's all really cool overall ^^

I was about to say it wasn't much of a boss fight until you said that it fits will with that kind of quirky boss fight and yeah, I know what you mean now, lol. I'm pretty sure I remember boss fights like that from the Paper Mario games where they had some battles where the music grooved like this

Definitely got the Halloween feel to it with that nice groove to it and that classic 8-bit feel. This was a lot of fun to listen to!

That was really well composed. The percussiveness at the beginning was pretty intense and creates a nice buildup! For the rest of the song, I kind of feel like it's the music that's kind of leading up to the battle.

All of the melodies sound really good and sort of give that sort of that dark army invasion feeling. Like, it's all leading up to a fight and it's going to be awesome, lol!

That was really cool! After listening to other songs, I feel like my mixing abilities sound really weak compared to the other songs, lol. There's that sort of big sound I've kind of gotten used to from listening to pop music that I'm still trying to learn how to create which I'm slowly getting there

A lot of the synth parts sound really cool in this song and I like how it kind of phases in and out during certain parts of the song. Kind of sounds like a modern take on the sort of classic 16 bit gaming of Halloween music where you have some instruments that sound more realistic but with a lot of synth sounds and sound effects to it. I also kind of get Pirate vibes from this kind of like some parts in Donkey Kong Country 2 or Monkey Island. I feel like there were some parts in Monkey Island that sounded like this but I'd have to go back and look, lol

This was a really fun listen!

That was pretty intense. I didn't notice the changing time signature until someone else pointed it out, but I think that's because it all ties together really nicely. I'll be honest, I think I like the second half of it more because it's not as intense and it's got some nice guitar parts in it, but I think for a video game boss where you want things to get weird and chaotic I think it's really fitting. I think there were a couple of Paper Mario songs that kind of sounded like this but I'll have to go back and look to see if I can remember which ones they are, lol

But, yeah, it all fits really well together. I don't think the transition is as harsh as you would have me believe, like if it's for a video game soundtrack then I think it's a good way to shift the tone depending on what's happening in the boss battle

That was pretty weird and experimental, but that makes sense for jazz  ^^

If you guys are first-timers, this is a pretty good start! It sounds chaotic but it does kind of hold together with the drums. It sounds like you're also playing with samples with the scream and the voice? It seems like there was effort put into this.

Keep playing around with the app and play around with different melodies. I don't use Bandlab but I have a friend who uses it who was able to make some really complex lo-fi hip hop tracks, so I know it's a versatile app. Keep playing around with it and you guys can only get better and better ^^

That was really cool! I like how it builds up to the organ and horns towards the beginning but then it goes back to being sort of subtle and atmospheric. There's a lot of cool subtlety to this piece where the instruments come in to play small parts to add to the spooky atmosphere.

Kind of SNES or a point-and-click adventure game kind of vibe, at least during a cutscene

I think it's more of an atmospheric kind of song than a boss battle but what you have is really cool though!

I can kind of hear the fuzziness on the piano part but after that getting brought up it's kind it's kind of hard for me not to notice how the lead instruments are kind of overpowering the other parts, like I feel like the drums could be a little bit more there but if the lead parts were turned down a bit it probably wouldn't have been that much of a problem. Mixing is hard -_- I had a lot of problems getting the drums to sound right on my track and even after spending time on it and relistening to it after submitting I still felt like I could have done better, lol

But you seem to have a good ear for melodies and counter-melodies. All of the music is really good and fits well together

Damn! You really nailed the old-school bit tune feel!

Making it in 3/4 gives me N64 platformer vibes. It's all very well put together and all the instruments used definitely give it a horror kind of vibe but like in a ballroom with dancing ghosts

It's really cool ^^

I feel like it could go before the boss fight too or maybe it's also used in a level

I like the atmospheric vibes to it and the synth sounds are really cool! I really like the subtle parts especially the drums in the middle

Kind of got some N64 platformer vibes from this, that might be the organ though

Everything else has a really cool soundtrack vibe to it, like I can picture it being in a movie and in a video game. I like the driving strings behind it and it feels like it's constantly building up. Like, as boss fight, I can imagine the boss getting stronger and stronger throughout the fight and using new powers or something like that

That was pretty epic! Some monster is summoning up some evil demons through this song right now, lol

This was really well put together and really well mixed! I always have trouble mixing the drums but you made them sound really good here along with everything else.

I don't know if this sounds like a boss battle song, it kind of sounds like an open-world area with horror parts into it. And there's one part where I kind of got a Zelda vibe which is cool ^^

Really well put together though! I also have Spitfire on my computer but didn't realize I can get that heavy of an orchestra sound from it, it sounds great!

Thanks!

So, I did write the song for the competition, but I was just wondering if I would be breaking any rules if I uploaded this song on my soundcloud before I uploaded it to this jam. This jam is a month long so I guess I still have plenty of time to work on my current song or maybe even come up with a different song completely, but I feel like in its current state it would be nice to add to my portfolio so I can show it to people.

Cool! I just sent you a request. I'm conner42

Hello! I'm pretty new to the whole game development scene and I'm trying to build a stronger portfolio and I was hoping to get to work with some people here.

I think I'm pretty old school since I've been specializing in synth-pop recently and my biggest influences seem to come from the 16-bit era from the SNES. I've also worked with another game on game jam where they wanted Doom style music and with what I had at the time it was the 90s style of Doom, lol

I don't really have the equipment to give a more modern heavy metal sound since I'm working with MIDI, but I'm still excited to see what kind of sound I can help you with

Here's my playlist of my more synth-sounding music: https://soundcloud.com/sean-conner-69491080/sets/synthpop-kind-of

And here's the game I helped work on before: https://zekthesnek.itch.io/zombiegame?fbclid=IwAR3pTBaLjfWdu4S3AQPsnVhxDzvSfFOEB...

Please get in touch if you're interested. Happy game jam everyone ^^

Hello! I have years of experience with music but have only just now gotten into MIDI. I've helped make heavy metal music for a Zombie game during another game jam. I'm also getting into creating synthpop kind of music

I'm new to the scene, I'll work with you for free

Here's my soundcloud: https://soundcloud.com/sean-conner-69491080/sets/reaper

Here's the game I helped work on: https://zekthesnek.itch.io/zombiegame?fbclid=IwAR3pTBaLjfWdu4S3AQPsnVhxDzvSfFOEB...

Get in touch! I hope everyone has a wonderful Game Jam experience!
