Folium
Folium in botanica est principale caulis plantarum vascularium organum,[1] plerumque super humo latum et respirationem (per stomata) et photosynthesim chlorophylli gratia perficiens. Folia caulisque una surculum constituunt.[2] In plurimis foliis, mesophyllum vallare, primus textus photosyntheticus, in superiori laminae folii latere invenitur,[3] sed in nonnullis speciebus, maturis Eucalypti foliis non exceptis,[4] mesophyllum vallare in ambobus lateribus adest, et haec folia ergo isobilateralia appellantur. Plurima folia sunt complanata, distinctis superficiebus superioribus (adaxialibus) et inferioribus (abaxialibus) monstrantia, quae inter se colore, indumento, numeris stomatum, quantitate structuraque cerae epicuticularis, aliisque proprietatibus variant. Folia plerumque sunt viridia propter chlorophyllum, compositum chemicum quod photosynthesi necessarium est, quia lucem a sole tenet. Folium cui partes laminae vel marginis sunt albae folium variegatum appellatur.
Folia etiam cibum et aquam servant; flores quoque cum variis structuris internis ex foliis commutatis constant.
