Thank you to everyone who submitted a design for the O3DE mascot challenge. The variety was astounding, with designs ranging from endearing and whimsical characters to bold and dynamic figures. The community has spoken with more than 1,900 votes —demonstrating the incredible passion for O3DE.
As part of our efforts to enhance the O3DE brand and connect more deeply with our community, we embarked on creating a mascot to embody the essence and core values of O3DE. To ensure the mascot reflected the brand’s spirit, we conducted a comprehensive brand personality survey, which provided valuable insights and feedback from our users about the traits that resonated most with them. We then invited our talented community to collaborate in designing this mascot, encouraging them to showcase their creativity and skills. The mascot was intended to represent key traits of O3DE, including being modern, bold, friendly, open source, modular, and emphasizing powerful rendering capabilities. We were excited to see how these traits were interpreted and looked forward to designs that would visually represent O3DE and resonate with our community’s spirit and values.
Meet Odie
“The idea for the mascot came from seeing the shader ball appear every time a default level is created. To me, the shader ball became a symbol of O3DE, so it made sense to base the mascot on it.”
