- [Instructor] All users deserve to have an equivalent experience when using a website and engaging with all forms of content. Various media formats communicate information through different physical senses, so it's important to make sure every media format is accessible with alternate information that conveys the same meaning clearly and concisely. The most common form of alternate content is alternative text for images. Alternative text, or alt text as it's commonly known, is visually hidden text that describes the contents of an image for users with low or no vision. This description is announced through assistive technology and also helps search engines index image content. In the WebAIM Million annual study of the top 1 million websites, missing alternative text for images was the second most common accessibility failure type found on over half of homepages.
