- The internet was originally created by academics to make their research globally accessible. As the web has evolved in the decades since, content, especially written content, has remained foundational to creating an accessible internet. Content design is where accessibility truly starts. The practice of accessibility-first design prioritizes creating accessible content as the foundation for all successful product work. In fact, it's best to implement content into the final medium, such as the web browser, as soon as possible to test and improve it for proper accessibility. This provides a useful and accessible baseline to preserve throughout the rest of the product development process. Even without any visual styling or custom functionality, a website with well-structured, semantic, accessible content can provide value to users.
