- According to World Health Organization, depression is currently a leading cause of disability worldwide, and more than 300 million people experience it. In a recent World Economic Forum report, it's predicted that the global cost of mental illness would be more than 6 trillion by 2030 for business organizations worldwide. As a result, many organizations are investing more dollars into benefit programs, which is supporting individuals welfare. Unfortunately, focusing on welfare is not good enough to raise equity with employees. In fact, welfare is recorded as only one of the conditions necessary to drive equitable total compensation. Indeed, during our work inside organizations, we come across many who are so well-compensated for their work, but so depleted for their inner resources. Sometimes they will say to us, "I wish the organization would grant me an additional week off versus this spot bonus." So what's the missing link here? It's our attention to wellbeing.
