How does your game fit the theme?
How it fits the theme: The theme of the GMTK Game Jam 2024 is built to scale, so in this game, you must literally build things, to allow bob to scale things such as walls. I took a looser definition of scale. In sandbox mode, you can also build very large and impressive things.

It took a bit of learning to get into, but it's a good game!

Developer

If you are going to comment

1. Thank you so much. I love the feedback.

2. I want to draw your attention to level design. Specifically difficulty. After you got a grasp of the mechanics, how did you progress.

Submitted

I like the concept, but it's a bit hard to understand what to do, and the fact that the inventory closes when you press the reset button is a bit frustrating. I eventually got through the first few levels, once you understand what to do it becomes quite fun!

Submitted

Nice game!

Love the core idea! I did struggle a bit with working out what each item was going to do without failing a few times first.

Submitted

Good premise! But found it a little awkward connecting things. Could have used some sort of feedback or indicator that you are connecting things.

Developer

yes

Submitted(+1)

Solid concept! Would have liked some more polish and also if my solutions were saved before running simulate so I didn't have to restart from scratch.

Developer

Yeah, I guess a state script is probably required. Would fix the music issue too!

Submitted

the concept is good, but the game need more polish, whole page of tutorial and complex mechanism is very unfriendly for new player. Took me a while to figure out how to use  spring connectors

Developer

Ok. Try to watch the video first. I understand about that, and I totally agree, so I added the video later to compensate.

Developer

How to attach them or how to utilize them to solve puzzles?

Submitted

took me a while to figure out how to attach them, and i didnt figure out how to use slide connector

Developer

Slide is same as spring, except you are unable to click on Bob first

Submitted

i mean what it does?

Developer

Oh, so you know how drawers work. Same as that.

Hey I have some suggestions:

  • Music could keep playing between restarts
  • Full screen messes up the popups
  • You should be able to bring back the instructions if you closed them
  • If you place multiple blocks would be nice if it kept the block selected when placing them so you don't have to click it every time
  • Would be nice if you could move the camera as well as zoom. Maybe I missed it

I love the sandbox. There is potential here for a great puzzle game.

Developer(+1)

You can move the camera

I did include a guide in the main menu if you miss the tutorial popups.

My bad on the fullscreen, I suck at UI

For the music, I am a little unsure of how to go about that. Anything quick and easy, (ex. in godot you can just make it an autoload.)

Submitted(+1)

i think the music is a tiny bit too loud it hurts my ears with headphones on. it would have been cool to build out the UI more to its easier on the eyes

Submitted(+1)

Cool concept. Would be nice if there was a quick animation of the systems so they are easier to understand.

Developer

Yeah, I did want to add that.

Submitted(+1)

Cool concept! I found the spring control a little difficult to understand but the puzzle design was fun!

Submitted

Interesting game, let down a bit by the controls. Having right click to select first and second pieces for joints was not intuitive, nor was q for motor in an otherwise mouse only game.

Resetting the entire level and deleting what you have done was also a little annoying. It meant I was not inspired to build complex machines, but instead I just put a block past the finish line with a spring attached and let bob fling themselves over. Decent potential, just needs polish.

Developer(+1)

Yeah, the q is only for trackpad support. Middle mouse button also works

Submitted

Neat concept and game! I think there were some issues with the controls on my browser (Firefox), but I was still able to get through the first few levels and had a good time :)

Developer

Its not your browser, it has to do with the weight system. When in doubt, press E

Submitted(+1)

Bob is adorable ♥ but UI looks a bit harsh and I couldn't play after the first level because the lines didn't show up and I couldn't restart the game. The game itself looks good! ♥

Developer(+1)

Oh. Really sorry to hear that. Could it be that you were clicking on Bob first. Also did you try pressing E?

Submitted

Not sure if I clicked on Bob, but I tried pressing E and it didn't work.

Developer(+1)

wack. Oh well. I am not sure. Right click right? I am not sure. Try clearing browser cookies (The goal is to clear PlayerPrefs).

Submitted

Okay, now it works, but I'm not sure why, because I kept clicking, I think I did it the same way every time, until it finally worked. So unfortunately I probably won't be able to give you more feedback. Maybe I was clicking wrong all this time and then I clicked right? Anyway, I finally managed to complete the level ♥

Developer(+1)

Yeah, since I didn't spend a lot of time on software architecture, there is a lot of jankiness to the weight system.

Submitted(+1)

Nice work!

Submitted(+1)

Cool idea! And interesting components I have never seen in a any building game. My only critique is that when you reset the music resets producing a harsh effect.

Developer

Yeah ran out of time. I didn't have a lot of time on the first couple of days in the jam

Submitted(+1)

Interesting but a lot of information right up front!

Developer

Yeaahhh...

Went through a couple of puzzles but felt a bit overwelmed initially when using the parts and remembering the controls.
However I felt like the puzzles were fun and inventive
