Radio spectrum
TIP: Do you want to get a professional competence certificate or individual authorisation for the use of frequencies, or ask for an extension of an existing certificate? We have a comprehensive overview of what is needed for this. The interactive forms can be useful.
According to Electronic Communications Act, the radio spectrum means electromagnetic waves with a frequency up to 3000 GHz, propagated in space without special lines.
Radio spectrum utilisation is governed by the following regulations:
at international level:
- Radio Regulations of the International Telecommunication Union (ITU).
- Legal regulations of the European Commission
- Decisions and Recommendations of the European Conference of Postal and Telecommunications Administrations (CEPT)
regulations in the Czech Republic:
- Frequency Band Allocation Plan (National Table of Frequency Allocations), which determines the allocation of frequency bands to individual radiocommunication services.
- The Radio Spectrum Utilisation Plan which follows the Frequency Band Allocation Plan and in which CTU determines the technical parameters and conditions for the use of the radio spectrum by radiocommunication services.
- General Authorisations for the use of radio frequencies and for the operation of radio equipment
Basic obligations
for the use of radio frequencies and for the operation of any radio broadcasting equipment, under the Electronic Communications Act:
- To use frequencies based only on individual or general authorisation (Section 9 et seq; Section 17 et seq. of the Electronic Communications Act).
- The equipment must comply with the set technical requirements (Section 73 et seq. of the Electronic Communications Act).
- In addition, a professional competence certificate is required to operate equipment in aeronautical and marine operation, in shortwave band and for an amateur radiocommunication service.
