How to link to a different language wiki in the "website" field of "cite website?"[edit]

This works: (example[1])

ie. putting wikilinks like website=The Pennsylvania Gazette in the cite web website field

But this does not:

(example[2])

but this does generally does work on mainspace pages: zh:公报_(宾夕法尼亚) zh:公报_(宾夕法尼亚)

This is especially important when citing WP:NOENG, so that readers can find more information about the source being cited as they are probably not familiar with it. J2UDY7r00CRjH (talk) 03:22, 11 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Washington, George. "Revolutionary War Begins". 公报_(宾夕法尼亚).

2024-25 Pittsburgh Penguins season page.[edit]

There is an issue in the Roster section of this page. A Penguins' goaltender, Tristan Jarry, is not listed on the roster. But, if you go to edit that section, his name & corresponding info do show up in the "source editing" format. I cannot figure out how to get his name & info to reappear in the Roster section. Please help? SummeRStorM79 (talk) 09:28, 11 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hi SummeRStorM79 I have "mended" it by removing the hidden text formatting (<!-- -->) from around his name on the edit page. I note that there are a number of other names on the edit page in similar formatting - so the whole sub-page needs checking, but I know nothing about the Pittsburgh Penguins. Best wishes - Arjayay (talk) 09:43, 11 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Pittsburgh Penguins roster has a reference to the roster on the official NHL site [1]. Tristan Jarry is there but not Jack St. Ivany so I commented him out.[2] He is on the roster of the affiliated Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins as a prospect for the Pittsburgh Penguins. He might make the main team later so I didn't remove him completely. The displayed players on the template now match the NHL roster. PrimeHunter (talk) 11:12, 11 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, where can one edit text in Panchaloha#See also please? Spicemix (talk) 14:47, 11 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@Spicemix: All links in that section currently use annotated link which automatically displays a short description stored in the target page. Short descriptions are displayed in many other places. I guess you only want to change what is displayed at Panchaloha#See also. You can omit annotated link and write your own link and description, e.g. changing Brass to Brass – Copper-zinc alloy, or whatever you want. Entries on disambiguation pages[edit]

Wikipedia has an article Eugene Gardner, starting "Milton Eugene Gardner". It wasn't listed at Gardner (surname), so I added it. Should I have put it in the "E" section, the "M" section, or both? Maproom (talk) 15:28, 11 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Good question. I looked and con't find guidance for this exact scenario. Wikipedia:WikiProject Anthroponymy/Standards comes closeest I guess. Just Step Sideways from this world ..... today 20:44, 11 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Although the article Eugene Gardner is about somebody who seems noteworthy, it's very feeble. At first glance it has just two sources. But one of these is a mere list entry for "Milton Eugene Gardner", so effectively the article has just a single source. This sole source is titled "Milton E. Gardner" and repeatedly refers to the man as "Milton". Very possibly "Eugene Gardner" is the best title for the article, but if so the article provides no evidence for this. If the current title is indeed the best choice, put him under "E". If, as I suspect, it is not, then first move the article accordingly and then put him under "M". -- Hoary (talk) 22:21, 11 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Request Category Removal For A Wikipedia Article[edit]

The Lipan Apache Tribe of Texas Wikipedia article has two incorrect categories listed on the page that need to be removed:

1) American People Who self-identify as being of Lipan Apache Descent

2) Unrecognized Tribes in the United States.

The page itself says at the top they are a state recognized tribe. Can someone remove those categories from the page?

Thank you Whitewolfdog1 (talk) 00:55, 12 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

The page doesn't seem to be protected, I suggest you WP:BOLDLY remove those categories if there is no source for them on the page. Or you can leave an a comment on the talk page. J2UDY7r00CRjH (talk) 01:12, 12 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Ah, thank you. I'll go ahead and do that then.
Are there any special instructions for deleting categories? Whitewolfdog1 (talk) 02:28, 12 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Click on the edit button at the top of the page. Scroll down to the very bottom where you will see a list of categories of the form

Delete the categories whose categorization is not sourced in the references of the article or that are directly contradicted by the references in the article. In the edit summary, give a short description of why you made the change and be sure to mention that you believe the article has not given a source for the claimed categorization given by the categories you are removing. Eg: "removed category x, no source for the claim that article y is in category x." If you check back later and find that someone reverted your changes, go to the talk page of the article and give a longer explanation of your view. Be sure to inform the person that reverted it by using the formula @UserWhoRevertedYou eg. @Whitewolfdog1 which will look like @Whitewolfdog1. If nobody responds to your point after one day then you can change it back to what you believe is appropriate. Most likely this will not be necessary but it may be useful here or in future edits you make. J2UDY7r00CRjH (talk) 03:58, 12 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Whitewolfdog1 I have queried whether the Lipan Apache Tribe of Texas are a state recognized tribe on the article talk page as the article seems to contradict itself. TSventon (talk) 00:12, 13 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Editors affiliated with the Lipan Apache Tribe of Texas have used Wikipedia from promotion for years (for example, these folk). I am beyond sick of trying to keep up with it all and trying to convince editors to stick to secondary, published citations (right now there's a Facebook post as a citation). I answered on the talk page. There is widespread misunderstanding and misinformation about state recognition. The only entity at this point who can assert state recognition for a Texas tribe would be the State of Texas itself. There was a recent proposed bill to state-recognized the LATT; however, the bill died in committee in 2023. Any fresh, non-involved eyes on this and related articles would be beyond welcome. Convention for romanization of author names from foreign language sources? [Resolved][edit]

Resolved

I can see that we have citation parameters for the translations of titles, chapters and quotations of non-english for instance:

|title=Tōkyō tawā |script-title=ja:東京タワー |trans-title=Tokyo Tower

However I cannot see the equivalent parameter for author names. e.g:

|script-last1=ko:홍 |trans-last1=Hong |script-first1=ko:이섭 |trans-first1=Yi-Seop

Therefore, how are these situations best handled? Is there a MOS?

Example approaches I can think of:

• Romanized: Hong, Yi-Seop (2011) [1971]. 세종대왕 [Sejong the Great] (in Korean) (9th ed.). Seoul [서울]: Sejong the Great Memorial Society [세종대왕기념사업회]. ISBN 978-89-8275-660-3.
• Original script: , 이섭 (2011) [1971]. 세종대왕 [Sejong the Great] (in Korean) (9th ed.). Seoul [서울]: Sejong the Great Memorial Society [세종대왕기념사업회]. ISBN 978-89-8275-660-3.
• Both using first and last fields: Hong [], Yi-Seop [이섭] (2011) [1971]. 세종대왕 [Sejong the Great] (in Korean) (9th ed.). Seoul [서울]: Sejong the Great Memorial Society [세종대왕기념사업회]. ISBN 978-89-8275-660-3.
• Both using author field: Hong Yi-Seop [홍이섭] (2011) [1971]. 세종대왕 [Sejong the Great] (in Korean) (9th ed.). Seoul [서울]: Sejong the Great Memorial Society [세종대왕기념사업회]. ISBN 978-89-8275-660-3.

Ideally, I think we should provide both to broaden SEO in both languages... but there doesn't seem to be a "clean" way of doing this? Or is there? In the absence of being able to do both via different parameters, is there any community consensus on how to best approach this? Any advice appreciated. Nonabelian (talk) 07:19, 12 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Can't see a parameter for that either. I took a brief look at Korea-related FA's and most of the Korean authors only had their names' romanizations listed. WP:MOSKOREA seems to imply romanized spellings are preferred in most places. Per WP:CITEVAR though, you should use whatever style the rest of the article uses. HansVonStuttgart (talk) 08:08, 12 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you, WP:CITEVAR seems to imply there is some discretion. I through I remember reading somewhere that for GA/FA articles, references should be provided either in date order (preferred for science) or alphabetical order (preferred for history)? Maybe I'm imagining things, but clearly romanized references would be easier to order alphabetically. Would it be the citation talk page that the time, effort and need for paramenters like |script-author1= |script-last1= |script-first1= etc. would be discussed and considered by the community? Nonabelian (talk) 07:45, 13 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
That talk page should be a good place to start, yes. I'm not quite sure what you mean by the order of references, as they are usually ordered by where they appear in the article. Unless you're talking about a WP:GENREF section, in which case I agree romanized spellings should be easier for English-speaking editors to work with. HansVonStuttgart (talk) 08:22, 13 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks again. Yes, for instance on this article here on Augustus citations are in order of appearance but the references themselves are listed alphabetically. Nonabelian (talk) 09:24, 13 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Nonabelian and HansVonStuttgart, the most recent major conversation we had about this problem was last November at Help talk:Citation Style 1/Archive 92 § Proposed script-author parameter. I participated.
Although no technical changes were implemented, it's been enough time that another conversation on the topic wouldn't be unwarranted.
I remember my citation style following that discussion changing to |last= Romanised surname|first=Romanised forename|author-mask=Romanised Name (Full Native Name). This was recommended as "best practice", but |author-mask= is clunky and requires incorporating punctuation literals when multiple authors are attributed.
Best, Folly Mox (talk) 14:04, 14 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
requires incorporating punctuation literals when multiple authors are attributed. You should not be including the names of multiple authors in |author-maskn= Each name gets its own mask.

If you are talking about Draft:Aoban, please don't waste your or our time trying to upload images to it. Even if they are acceptable with regard to copyright (and the images that beginners try to add are very often not acceptable, because they often do not spend any time learning about Wikipedia before trying to add them) they will add absolutely nothing to a piece of unsourced advertising which will shortly be deleted.
I always advise new editors to not even think about trying to create an article before they have spent some weeks or months practising editing and learning how Wikipedia works. This is even more true of editors with a conflict of interest.
Please read what Wikipedia is not very carefully, especially WP:NOTPROMO.
The only circumstances in which Wikipedia might possibly accept an article about Aoban is if the article were entirely based on what people wholly unconnected with Aoban had chosen to publish about it in reliable sources. Your knowledge of Aoban is of no use whatever in creating an article about it, and nor is anything written, published, or commissioned by Aoban or its associates. (which is one of the reasons why editing with a conflict of interest is difficult). ColinFine (talk) 16:31, 12 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

What does this mean? and how do I fix it. Wiki won't publish my content. Chalco48 (talk) 17:46, 12 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

This means the editing interface has been open too long and the cache has been cleared on Wikipedia's server. If you can copy your content, and paste it into a freshly opened editor in a separate tab, you can save your work and publish your changes.
To avoid this in the future, it's best to try to publish your changes frequently. I prefer to limit myself to twenty minutes between publishing, and don't encounter this error anymore. Folly Mox (talk) 17:51, 12 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@Meedper, an article with that title was deleted in December 2022, following this discussion: Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Leela Floyd. Gråbergs Gråa Sång (talk) 19:39, 12 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Meedper, Notability in terms of editing Wikipedia does not mean importance; rather it means "enough about this subject has been published (in reliable sources) on which to base a properly cited Wikipedia article."
If enough has been published about you, personally, to demonstrate your notability, then someone could (re-)create an article about you titled Leela Floyd, but the 2022 Deletion discussion did not find enough material. Note also that Wikipedia:Autobiography is strongly discouraged here because it is very, very difficult for an individual to write about themselves with the necessary detachment and neutrality.
It is more likely that material could be found to validly create an article about your book titled Indian Music (textbook) or similar (red because there isn't one yet).
If you can, in this thread, give us links to and/or bibliographic details of at least three pieces of substantial length, written by people unconnected with you and published in WP:Reliable sources, that discuss the book, someone might well be willing to create an article about it. Possible sources would include contemporary reviews in reputable music, educational and other journals and periodicals, newspaper reports (have you kept cuttings?), paragraphs in books about music education, and so on.
What gets recorded for posterity (and can therefore be used as a Wikipedia source) is sometimes chancy, but Wikipedia insists on using published (and independent) material only in order to uphold its fundamental policy of WP:Verifiability. Using pdf of newspaper articles which aren't in established archives[edit]

I have several newspaper cuttings from many years past that I would like to use as citation references in my article, but they haven't been archived by the publishers (Bristol Evening Post being one of them). I have original cuttings which I have digitised, can I use a pdf of any cutting as a citation? I can provide copyright details and date of publication. As these are from published newspapers am I right in thinking they are in the public domain, as long as I credit where they come from? Jjarchivist (talk) 22:54, 12 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

It would depend on the copyright law of where the newspapers originated from. Based on doing a mini search, the Bristol Post is a United Kingdom newspapers. I'm not sure when Bristol Evening Post changed it name to Bristol Post but I believe they are the same thing. I would suggest researching the copyright laws in the United Kingdom and/or reach out to the publication company to see if they are fine of having old newspapers uploaded to the Internet Archive and cite them here. The important parts of a citations are bibliographic information such as author, title, date, publication, page number (if available): a link is a convenience for the reader or reviewer, not an essential part of the citation. It follows that if you have only hard copies, you can still cite them - as long as you have the publication, date, etc. There is no need to upload the cutting (which in many cases would be a copyright violation anyway).
No, your cuttings are not in the public domain, unless you can positively show that there is a reason why - age is one possible reason. See WP:Public domain. ColinFine (talk) 23:08, 12 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Family categories[edit]

I was creating a category for the acting/politics family, Category:Lapid family (Philippines), and I am wondering, do you add the films that one member of the family starred into the category? And do you add the positions that one member of the family held? All answers will be appreciated.

Citation needed within article?[edit]

An editor removed a "Citation needed" template from Faye Dunaway#1967–1968: Early films and breakthrough with the edit summary "Already indexed right here on Wiki". The content in question is "Preminger's film did not meet critical or box-office success, but Dunaway retained notice enough to earn a Golden Globe Award nomination for New Star of the Year."

I assume that Wikipedia:Verifiability means that verification should appear in the article in which the content appears -- not just somewhere on Wikipedia. Am i wrong in that assumption? Eddie Blick (talk) 03:48, 13 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@Teblick: you are correct: Wikipedia is not considered a reliable source for itself. The citation(s) must be copied from those other articles into this article. Please assume good faith (WP:AGF) and work together with the other editor to replace the "Citation needed" template with the appropriate citations(s) from the other articles. The article's talk page is a good place to collaborate. -Arch dude (talk) 04:01, 13 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

New user playing with multiple accounts[edit]

Should I have reported <this situation> (userlist) to some admin or is an uw-agf-sock warning enough as I have done? Not that I expect to run into exactly this situation again - and posting about it here already brings awareness in this case.

These clearly violate the socking policy, I only warned because they have not edited outside userspace. – 2804:F1...BC:2770 (talk) 03:58, 13 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Bare URL and dead link.[edit]

I've recently been trying to expand bare referances. One issue I've come across is articles with permanantly dead bare links. I've seen some editors label these "dead link" and others with "bare url". Should these links be tagged as dead, bare, or both? In case I wasn't clear, here is an example of a page with this issue. CursedWithTheAbilityToDoTheMath (talk) 04:59, 13 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

CursedWithTheAbilityToDoTheMath Bare URLs are really only fixable if the link is not dead yet, so tagging it after the fact isn't helpful. So I think it would be better practice to tag as just dead. It's probably not worth making edits to fix though. Sungodtemple (talkcontribs) 05:52, 13 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Okay thanks. That was my thought as well but wanted to double check. CursedWithTheAbilityToDoTheMath (talk) 05:53, 13 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
CursedWithTheAbilityToDoTheMath, the logical next step in a case like this is to carry out a competent internet search in attempt to verify the poorly referenced assertion. If you discover a reliable source, then use it to create a new reference to replace the dead links that are so common with bare URLs. Cullen328 (talk) 07:42, 13 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
dead link is helpful; bare url is harmful. bare url will often induce bots and incautious editors with imperfect citation scripts to come round and garble the reference, leaving it with a source free of any maintenance tags where the full citation information amounts to |title=Page not found|website=ema.europa.eu or similar. Folly Mox (talk) 14:46, 13 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
There was a big ol' fight about this a few years back. Folly Mox (talk) 14:48, 13 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for your reply it makes a lot of sense. I'm currently using the cleanup listing to find the bare URLs so once it updates I'll replace the bare url templates with dead link templates and see what I can find as far as alternative sources. CursedWithTheAbilityToDoTheMath (talk) 17:56, 13 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@CursedWithTheAbilityToDoTheMath: I think "step zero" is to try to see if the URL was archived. If so, build a citation from the archived copy. -Arch dude (talk) 15:31, 13 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I do usually check however I was specifically reffering to links that aren't archived. CursedWithTheAbilityToDoTheMath (talk) 17:52, 13 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

How to reverse a redirect?[edit]

Currently, Turbinate reduction surgery redirects to Turbinectomy. I would like to reverse the redirect: rename Turbinectomy to Turbinate reduction surgery, and have Turbinectomy point to it instead. The reasons for the move are outlined here.

How should I go about doing this? Do I need to delete Turbinate reduction surgery first? Amayorov (talk) 11:55, 13 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Isn't turbinectomy the more common term? Doug butler (talk) 14:21, 13 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
The more common term for one of the two surgeries, according to the sources quoted on the linked talkpage.
I feel like this might be able to be accomplished by a round-robin move by someone with pagemover rights (Turbinate reduction surgeryTurbinoplasty without leaving a redirect, TurbinectomyTurbinate reduction surgery), but I'm not sure if the history of the redirect Turbinate reduction surgery is considered trivial enough, and the move may require admin rights. Assuming in any case consensus is reached for the rename. Folly Mox (talk) 14:31, 13 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I've outlined the reasons for the move here. Generally, Turbinectomy and Turbinoplasty are considered different procedures. Both of them fall under Turbinate reduction surgery. Amayorov (talk) 18:30, 14 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Hello, Amayorov, and welcome to the Teahouse. You have done the right thing by opening a discussion; but you should wait several days for input from other people knoweldgeable about the subject before going ahead. If nobody replies in, say, a week, you can take that as acceptance.

wikipedia's search engine[edit]

I am curious about the ordering of results from Wikipedia's internal search engine. (1) Is its algorithm described somewhere? (2) Where might one send comments on the algorithm? Mdmi (talk) 13:30, 13 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Usually the results come back ordered by pageview, although I don't remember this being documented anywhere. For the factors used to determine which autocomplete suggestions to display, there's fairly good details at mw:Extension:CirrusSearch/CompletionSuggester. The main help page for the search engine is at mw:Help:CirrusSearch. The whole codebase is open source, so if you're comp sci enough you might be interested in the GitHub repo. In terms of reaching the devs, they'll see bug reports at phab:tag/mediawiki-search, but I'm not sure where general feedback would be best received. What are your comments specifically? Perhaps we can figure out how best to get in touch, or even solve your problem directly with additional information. Folly Mox (talk) 14:20, 13 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Vandalism help request from Googolplexus[edit]

I have noticed some vandalism at Cockatoo, Victoria. Namely, a bunch of different IP addresses keep adding something about 'Gryphen's Bachelor Pad' to this article and surrounding areas like Emerald, Victoria. Would an editor please assist me with fixing it? I reverted the latest vandalism myself but they keep coming back so I was wondering if there was a way to get them to stop doing it - though it comes from different IPs a lot of the time so I'm not sure. Infobox parameter -- display as link[edit]

I would like an infobox parameter to display as a link. An example of this may be found at, say, the infobox in the wikipedia page for Oxford, UK: Oxford wherein the parameter "Demonym" appears in the infobox as a link. What is the standard way to do this? Neither the "Edit Source" on that wikipedia page, nor the relevant Infobox Template page Template:Infobox settlement seem to give any clue on how this should be done. Jriley (talk) 19:04, 13 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

|population_demonym=Oxonian did not work for you?
Trappist the monk (talk) 19:14, 13 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks Trappist. Your code might work, but I don't see the double brackets on the Edit Source page. All I see for that line is:
| population_demonym = Oxonian
... and it's the bit of code that tells the wp server to serve up the parameter's corresponding value as a link that I would like to use. Jriley (talk) 19:37, 13 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Did you try: |population_demonym=Oxonian|population_demonym=Oxonian? Do the change manually or there is a 'magic button' in the source editor header that looks like a pair of chain links. Highlight 'Oxonian' and click the magic button. Choose the destination that you want and click the 'Insert link' button.
Trappist the monk (talk) 19:45, 13 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks again Trappist. It's the parameter ("Demonym") I need to show as a link, not the value ("Oxonian"). This would mean something like:
| population_demonym = Oxonian
... which breaks the infobox. Jriley (talk) 19:59, 13 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
At Oxford, the label 'Demonym' is linked to Demonym so what you are really asking eludes me.
Trappist the monk (talk) 21:44, 13 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
You cannot control how the parameter names are displayed in an infobox, (unless there are other parameters to allow you to). They are coded in the template itself. You would need to edit the template (and possibly an underlying module) to get the parameter name to display as a wikilink. ColinFine (talk) 22:16, 13 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
(edit conflict) I think Jriley wants to introduce a link on a currently unlinked secret field label of a secret infobox on a secret page. I don't know why so many posters insist on keeping it super secret from helpers what they actually want help with but it's very annoying and wastes a huge amount of time. It's the infobox template itself and not the caller which controls both the text and any link on the infobox labels in the left column. The caller only controls the value in the right column. A few infoboxes have additional parameters to control the label of one or a few of their normal parameters. PrimeHunter (talk) 22:25, 13 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Thankyou Trappist and ColinFine. I had a look at the infobox template page, and could see nothing there indicating how the parameter entry shows as a link on the wp page. I suspect indeed there is an underlying module as you suggest Colin. Jriley (talk) 22:26, 13 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
At Infobox settlement, the linking of the label 'Demonym' is handled by this markup:
| label103 = {{Pluralize from text|{{if empty|{}|{}force plural}}|link=Demonym|singular=Demonym|likely=Demonym(s)|plural=Demonyms}}

what rights to remove a page from *someone else's* watchlist?[edit]

Just curious, what level of "mop bucket" is required to have the ability to remove page from a users watchlist. Do administrators or bureaucrats have that ability or would it take office action? (I know it seems silly, but I once actually had a new user indicate that someone should remove a page that this user "owned" (since they worked for the group) from my watchlist). JOYCEMM12 see Wikipedia:File upload wizard for instructions on uploading files. Note, all uploaded photos must have a Creative Commons (or the like) license, or be uploaded under fair use. Once the file is uploaded, see Help:Pictures for instructions on inserting it into Meli'sa Morgan. Sungodtemple (talkcontribs) 09:29, 14 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Hello, Meli'sa. While Sungodtemple's answer is correct, I don't think it is as helpful as it might be.
There are two issues. The more important, from Wikipedia's point of view, is that of conflict of interest: in general you should not be directly editing the artilce Meli'sa Morgan yourself, but instead should raise edit requests on the article's talk page. Having said that, inserting an image is probably OK; but (for example) replacing an existing image with another one would probably not be: it would be up to uninvolved editors, not to you, to decide which is the most fitting image of those available.
Secondly, there is the image itself. Wikipedia is very careful about copyright. For an article about a living person, the only permissible photo is one that has been explicitly licensed with a permissive licence such as WP:CC-BY-SA by the copyright owner (who is not usually the subject).
So, if you have a photo where you own the copyright (either because you took it yourself, or because the photographer has specifically assigned you the copyright) then you may upload it, and declare in doing so that you are the copyright owner, and you are releasing it under a suitable licence. (Be aware that in doing so, you are granting an irrevocable licence to anybody in the world to reuse and alter the photo, as long as they attribute its source).
If you do not own the copyright, then you will need the owner to either upload it as I have explained, or to explicitly license it: see donating copyright materials. ColinFine (talk) 11:51, 14 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

You submitted it again, three days ago. At the top, it says "This may take 4 months or more, since drafts are reviewed in no specific order." Please be patient.
While you are waiting, I strongly suggest that you read WP:REFB, and format all your bare URLs as proper citations: it wouldn't surprise me if that is one of the reasons why no reviewer has picked up your draft again.
I would advise also looking critically at each of your sources, and checking that it meets all three of the criteria in 42: reliability, independence, and significant coverage of the subject. I suspect very few of them do so. ColinFine (talk) 11:58, 14 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Jhenson1 it is a hard requirement that biographies of living people have in-line citations after every statement. Currently most of your draft is uncited. I have declined it on this basis. Please see the tutorial at WP:INTREFVE to add in-line citations throughout.
The key thing is, however, does Thomas meet our notability criteria at WP:NACADEMIC? If not, he does not merit an article. If you think he does, you need to prove that through the use of sources. Qcne (talk) 12:41, 14 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

There is a doctor named Tom

He can dance and sign with aplomb

With the verve of a dervish

He doctors the nervish

When perplexed he bursts into song"

Invisible comments[edit]

I'm working on The God Who Riots and noticed some invisible text indicating why a category was added. I haven't done much with invisible text and based on my reading of WP:HIDDEN and WP:COMMENT these comments seem unnecessary. Would it be inappropriate to remove the hidden comments as clutter? It seems obvious that a category would be a topic covered in the book and if that isn't obvious then it could have been clarified in the edit summary. Is it common practice to add comments explaining why categories have been added? TipsyElephant (talk) 17:21, 14 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@TipsyElephant: It's definitely not common practice to add a commentary to explain the addition of categories to an article, specially when they don't appear to be controversial. @Rahim231: The ISBN was invented in 1970. Your example book was published in 1949. Presence of an ISBN is not evidence of reliability. Absence of an ISBN is not evidenced of unreliability, even for a book published after 1970. -Arch dude (talk) 20:59, 14 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, Oskarzqt. Editor @Another Believer changed the article to a redirect page, with the comment "New article does not demonstrate notability".
You can open a discussion on the talk page of the target article, Talk: Drag Race Germany: remember to ping Another Believer.
To be honest, this is the sort of frustrating thing that happens to new editors when they jump straight into the very challenging task of creating a new article before they have understood much about how Wikipedia works. My earnest advice to new editors is to not even think about trying to create an article until you have spent several weeks - at least - learning about how Wikipedia works by making improvements to existing articles. Once you have understood core policies such as verifiability, neutral point of view, reliable, independent sources, and notability, and experienced how we handle disagreements with other editors (the Bold, Revert, Discuss cycle), then you might be ready to read your first article carefully, and try creating a draft..
