Adjusting color and tone with Levels and Curves
- Two of the most powerful adjustment layers for changing tone and colors are levels and curves. We're going to start by making a global adjustment to extend the dynamic range of this photo using levels. Then we're going to change the mid-tones the color and make selective adjustments using curves. We can see, I have the histogram panel showing, if your histogram panel isn't showing, you can find it under the Window menu. When I add a levels adjustment layer from the bottom of the layers panel, we can see all of the options in the properties panel, including that same histogram. Now, I know that the dynamic range of this image is a little bit flat, meaning that it's not taking advantage of the entire dynamic range because there aren't values in the pure black area, nor in the highlight or white area here.
