Applying filters nondestructively with Smart Filters

- [Tutor] The most important thing to know before you start working with filters is that if you simply select the filter from the menu, Photoshop is going to apply that filter and make a permanent change to your image. For example, if I select filter and then we choose stylize and then oil paint, if I apply this filter, then Photoshop has actually made those changes to my image. Now, right now I can still undo, but if I'd saved and close this file, it would be permanently baked or changed into the file. I'm going to use command Z to undo that. Before I add my filter, I'm going to want to convert my image to a smart object, and we can do that by going to the layer menu and choosing smart objects and convert to smart object, or we can use our context-sensitive menus and right click on the layer in the background to convert to a smart object, but we can also use the filter menu and choose to convert for smart filters that will…
