Creating painterly effects using Filter Gallery

- [Instructor] There are a number of filters that emulate traditional drawing and painting effects and textures, and create interesting special effects, all under Photoshop's Filter Gallery. If you select the Filter menu and Filter Gallery is grayed out, it's probably because your image is in 16 bit. You'll need to choose Image, Mode, and then convert from 16-bit to 8-bit in order to access the Filter Gallery. I'll convert this to a smart object by choosing Filter and then Convert for Smart Filters. And before selecting Filter Gallery, I'll tap the D key, just to set the default colors for my foreground and background color swatches, because some of the Filter Gallery filters use those swatches. Alright, I'll select Filter and then Filter Gallery. On the left we have our preview area. I'll use Cmd + 0 in order to zoom out, but I can also use any of the zoom controls in the lower left.
