- [Instructor] In this video, we're going to take a look at how to use blend modes to control how layers interact with one another. But keep in mind, blend modes aren't limited to layers, they can be used with many of the painting tools when adding layer effects like drop shadows and much more in Photoshop. So, this document has two layers, it has the image of the rock on the background, which I'm going to call the base layer although it could be made of several different layers. And then we have this watch photographed on a white background or kind of an off-white background which I'm going to call the blend layer. Plus, we have these three swatches, we have a white swatch, a 50% gray swatch and we have a black swatch. Now, the blend modes in the layers panel are grouped together and they're separated by these thin lines. So, let's start by taking a look at the first group which is normal and dissolve.
