- [Instructor] Smart objects offer a non-destructive and flexible way to work with layers in Photoshop, especially when you're resizing or transforming or warping layers, and you're really not sure what size they're going to end up being. I'm going to start with this image, and let's just take a look at what happens when we're working with a regular layer and we scale the image down and then scale it back up. I'm going to convert the background into a layer by clicking on the lock icon, and then we'll choose Edit, and then Transform, and then Scale. I'm going to hold down the Option key on the Mac or the Alt key on Windows, and let's scale this image down. I'm going to do so rather drastically and then apply this transformation. So when we do that to a regular layer in Photoshop, Photoshop throws away all of the information that's not needed. And that means that if I change my mind at a later time and I try to transform…
