Mastering bit depth and color mode

- [Instructor] We're going to take the next few minutes to look at several images that have various bit depths as well as color modes. Now bit depth specifies how much information is available for each pixel in an image. The more bits of information per pixel, the more values are possible and the more accurate tonal representation can be achieved. The most common bit depths are eight and 16 bit. Color modes determine how many colors can be represented by the number of channels that they contain and the way that colors are stored in those channels. We're going to look at three color modes, gray scale, index color, and RGB and see how they interact with bit depth. So in this first example, we have an eight bit image in the gray scale color mode.
